Surface Preparation Requirements

Existing Waterproofing Removal: Failed waterproofing systems completely removed exposing substrate. Cannot apply new waterproofing over failed systems. Surface preparation requirements same as new construction.

Application Process
Waterproofing installation follows systematic procedures ensuring quality:
Environmental Conditions: Temperature and humidity must fall within manufacturer specifications during application and cure. Cold or wet weather delays application until conditions allow. Hot weather requires measures preventing rapid drying or blistering.
Primer Application: Primers applied per manufacturer specifications improving adhesion and substrate compatibility. Proper coverage and dry time before membrane application.

Terminations and Details: Proper termination at grade, wall tops, and penetrations. Flashing details at changes in plane. Ensuring continuous waterproof envelope without gaps or weak points.
Drainage and Water Management

- Foundation Drainage: Perimeter drains collecting and directing groundwater away from foundations. Drainage board or gravel layer between waterproofing and backfill.
